Business Process Re-engineering was a hot-button term for the 1990’s and early 2000’s (Millennials, if you are reading this, sorry for making you consult Wikipedia) – the concept still exists but is more limited to highly specialized (and highly priced) consulting firms seeking to analyze workflows and examine the overall performance of an organization. A way to literally think outside of the cube, BPR as a term may be losing it’s trendiness, but re-engineering can still be a DIY as well as a cost-effective solution.
BPR is a great idea for your company, any day of the week. Improving your process and streamlining (forgive the buzzword) your workflow will ultimately make your company more efficient. And at the end of the way, it is something you can actually do yourself, without consulting the big (read: exorbitant) guns like BCG or McKinsey.
