It can be challenging for truly stoic entrepreneurs to admit that style reflects intelligence, and makes huge impacts on internal efficiency. Offices are meant to be the mecca of efficiency, productivity, and leadership – yet the vast majority of offices do not bother to focus on the external appearance of the space.
Time and again, environment has proven to be the subconscious impetus to productivity. Whether it’s physical or virtual, what we busy worker bees surround ourselves with has a huge impact on our overall performance, and the first impressions we give our investors, partners and clients. Fortunately there are a few simple clues that can make a big impact on your office environment.
The Big Priorities
Your most important areas should be the areas of high traffic. The reception area is often the biggest offender in an enterprise – covered in papers and poorly arranged. If your office has a lot of outside traffic, the receptionists desk should be the epitome of form meeting functionality – attractive, but overall very useful.

A receptionist’s desk like this offers hiding places for messes if you cannot bear to part with your messy receptionist.

The second offender is the conference room. Is yours a mishmash of mismatched office chairs? Do they sing a chorus of squeaks every time someone shifts in their flattened cushion? Do incongruous writing utensils decorate the desk like confetti? If so, you might want to consider a few cheap organizational cups (stylish and matching please) as well as purchasing an even, matching set of office chairs. Nothing subconsciously screams successful organization like matching, fresh office chairs.

Remember: office chairs are meant to be seen and not heard. Splurge this week on some WD-40 if your CFO won’t approve the replacements.

Mismatched chairs don’t look good in your dining room, and they definitely won’t look good in your office. This is not a club meeting. Make sure everything matches.
Finally, do you show your clients digital presentations? Is your desktop pockmarked with icons and files? Do you keep a million tabs and documents open? This is a big offender on the internal organizational standpoint. Office efficiency with the proper programming can resolve the many headaches that come from being completely and utterly disorganized in your virtual space. Imagine how your coworkers and employees feel?

I get stressed out just looking at this.
Cleaning up your virtual space is not as hard a job as you might think. With the right software, you can make both your mental and physical spaces clean, stylish, and impressive. Document Management Software complete a job like this one – no more icons, no more duplicates, and more easily searchable, trackable project files. Make your desktop finally look something like this:
