5i Solutions, Inc. Salutes M-Files EU GDPR Compliance Innovation
5i Solutions Inc., a value-added reseller of M-Files Corporation products that improve how business manage documents and other data, salutes new offerings by M-Files. These innovations are designed to help companies better protect their customer’s personal data and adhere to the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) of the European Union (EU).
The objective of the EU GDPR is simplification and harmonization of data privacy laws across Europe. This will give EU citizens better control of their Personally Identifiable Information (PII). And while GDPR is a regulation that is limited to the EU, the mandate will affect any organization that handles PII for an EU-based individual—no matter where the organization itself is headquartered or based. The GDPR goes into effect in May of 2018, and M-Files and 5i Solutions, Inc. are taking steps now to ensure they are ready to adhere to the new mandates.
Mika Javanainen, vice president of product management at M-Files Corporation, stated that GDPR is intended to ensure specific policies and procedures are in place to protect personal information. M-Files is innovating to help organizations meet this requirement, said Javanainen, as well as making sure that employees are trained and adhere to those procedures. M-Files will also simplify the process of providing compliance evidence to GDPR auditors.
Jonathan Bennett, Business Development Manager at 5i Solutions, likes the fact that the M-Files product offered by 5i is scalable and flexible. “They’re already working on the information management solution that will enable organizations to better manage personal data and PII,” said Bennett. “Control and tracking of such information is vital, including that handled by third-party ‘data processors,’” he continued. “We’re glad to offer a solution like M-Files to help our clients implement and enforce the policies and procedures associated with the EU GDPR handling of personal information. And we especially like the fact that proving compliance will be quick and easy to do, with powerful audit reporting capabilities.”
Personal information often resides in myriad of different systems, said Bennett, and often in network folders and other data silos. This can make it extremely challenging for companies without the right document management system to control and protect them.
“M-Files integrates with existing systems and repositories in a manner where information can remain in place, in its original location, without disturbing existing systems and processes, “said Bennett. “This enables companies to keep their existing systems while adding the means of compliance with protecting personal information as required by the GDPR requirements.”
